Description
What It Is:
This is a geography worksheet featuring a blank map of California. Students are instructed to color the four different regions of California (Mountain, Valley, Desert, Coastal) based on a color-coded key. They also need to label major bodies of water using a provided word bank (Sacramento River, San Joaquin River, Colorado River, San Diego Bay, San Francisco Bay, Monterey Bay, Humboldt Bay) and outline/color the locations of Native American tribes (Chumash, Miwok, Pomo, Serrano, and Yokut) in the corresponding spaces on the map key. A scale is provided for distance estimation.
Grade Level Suitability:
This worksheet is suitable for grades 4-6. The map reading, coloring, labeling, and understanding of geographical regions and Native American tribes are concepts typically introduced and reinforced in these grade levels. The use of a word bank provides support for younger students.
Why Use It:
This worksheet reinforces geographical knowledge of California, including its different regions and major bodies of water. It also introduces students to the locations of several Native American tribes that inhabited the state. It develops map reading skills, color-coding skills, and vocabulary related to geography and Native American history.
How to Use It:
First, have students read the directions carefully. Provide colored pencils or crayons. Instruct students to color each region of California according to the key. Next, using the word bank, they should label the major bodies of water on the map. Finally, students should outline and color the location of each Native American tribe, coloring the corresponding box in the key to match.
Target Users:
This worksheet is ideal for elementary and middle school students studying California geography, Native American history, or map skills. It can also be used as a review activity or assessment tool. Homeschooling parents may also find it useful.
