Information
Description
What It Is:
This is a science worksheet focused on cell organelles. Students are instructed to describe the function of each listed organelle (cell membrane, cytoplasm, golgi complex, lysosome, mitochondria, nuclear membrane, nucleus, nucleolus, ribosome, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, vacuole, centriole, cell wall, and chloroplast) and draw a picture to help them remember its function. The worksheet is divided into three columns: organelle name, function, and drawing. Some organelles are specifically labeled as being found only in animal cells or plant cells.
Grade Level Suitability:
This worksheet is suitable for middle school (grades 6-8) and early high school (grade 9) students. The content requires a basic understanding of cell biology concepts typically introduced in these grades. The activity of describing functions and drawing visuals reinforces learning at this level.
Why Use It:
This worksheet helps students learn and memorize the functions of various cell organelles. It combines textual descriptions with visual representations, promoting deeper understanding and retention. The worksheet also reinforces the differences between animal and plant cells.
How to Use It:
Students should first research the function of each cell organelle listed. Then, they should write a brief description of the function in the 'Function' column. Finally, they should draw a simple picture in the 'Draw' column that helps them remember the function of that organelle.
Target Users:
The target users are middle school and high school students studying cell biology, as well as their teachers who need a supplemental activity to reinforce learning about cell organelles.
