Description
What It Is:
This is a phonics worksheet focusing on consonant blends and digraphs. The worksheet includes two activities. The first activity asks the student to say the name of each picture and type the blend or digraph that completes the picture's name (examples: ice cream, vest, bench, knee, twig, plate, pray, fish, birthday). The second activity presents a list of words and asks the student to select the word in the same row that has the same beginning sound as the first word (examples: sheep, choir, prize, cloth, thirteen, star).
Grade Level Suitability:
This worksheet is suitable for Kindergarten and first grade students. The activities focus on identifying beginning sounds and blends, which are foundational skills typically taught in these grade levels.
Why Use It:
This worksheet reinforces phonemic awareness and phonics skills by having students identify and apply consonant blends and digraphs. It helps students connect sounds to letters and improve their reading and spelling abilities. The picture-based activity is engaging and helps with vocabulary development.
How to Use It:
For the first activity, have the student say the name of each picture aloud. Then, ask them to identify the consonant blend or digraph that completes the word and write it in the blank space. For the second activity, have the student read the first word in each row and then identify the word in the same row that starts with the same sound, circling or highlighting their choice.
Target Users:
This worksheet is designed for kindergarten and first-grade students who are learning about consonant blends and digraphs. It can also be used for students who need extra practice with phonics skills or for ESL/ELL students learning English pronunciation.
