Information
Description
What It Is:
This is a worksheet designed to teach the concept of personification. It provides a definition of personification and then presents five examples of sentences using personification within green oval shapes. Each sentence gives human characteristics to non-human things, such as 'The stars winked at Little Johnny' and 'The plants danced as I watered them.' There are also corresponding illustrations next to some of the sentences to further illustrate the concept.
Grade Level Suitability:
This worksheet is suitable for grades 3-5. The language and examples are simple enough for students in these grades to understand the concept of personification. The worksheet provides visual aids which makes it appropriate for younger learners.
Why Use It:
This worksheet helps students understand and identify personification in writing. It reinforces the definition of personification through examples, helping students to recognize this figure of speech and improve their reading comprehension and writing skills.
How to Use It:
First, read the definition of personification at the top of the worksheet. Then, read each example sentence and identify the non-human thing that is being given human characteristics. Discuss how the sentence would be different if personification was not used. You could also have students create their own sentences using personification.
Target Users:
The target users for this worksheet are elementary school students, particularly those in grades 3-5, who are learning about figures of speech and literary devices. It can also be helpful for students who need extra practice with reading comprehension and creative writing.
